Rush Hour Jr. Game!!

I’m not alone in loving this game, check the reviews about it! It’s fun, exciting and for those who love a challenge, you got it! I love to watch V working through the challenges and how excited she gets when she solves the problem and frees the ice-cream truck!

Worthy every penny!

Here’s how you play it:

The game comes with 40 challenge cards (10 easy, 10 medium, 10 hard, 10 super hard), pick one card and set it on the appropriate slot.

Place the cars and trucks as pictured on the challenge card.

Now, use your brain to free the ice-cream truck!

Fun, right? Needless to say that we spend hours challenging ourselves here in the house. We are a very competitive family when it comes to games!
I posted a link on the side bar in case you would like ti check out more about it or even purchase. This is the Jr. version but there’s another version for ages 8+.
Have a great day.

Library Resources!

There is a library six blocks away from my house, how convenient!! We make extensive use of the library resources and our librarian is a sweetheart, very willing to help, she even ordered aditional material to help the homeschooling families.

If the book I need to use for the school is not available at the branch nearest to me, I can request it to be brought to the branch I need it. It takes a few days so make sure you request with plenty of time. I don’t know how it works with other cities or counties, but I’ve done that before in Florida too.

Each library V and I visited have a kid’s section where you can find tons of fun books to read, little tables, couches, educational toys. Make sure you check the library closest to you, it can be more than just educational it can be lost of fun!

The library branch nearest to us also has magnets experiments, model of eye, bones, muscles and many other resources we can use for teaching. What cool things have you seen in your library?

Have a great day!

Math Curriculum!

Math U See curriculum is really making our math lessons fun and I love how well little V is doing with the activities. We do watch the videos for the lessons and jump right into the activities! Can teaching Math be easier than that!?!?

I love the fact that they frequently encourage the kids to use the manipulative blocks, which by the way makes it all fun and keeps little V so focused. The lessons, at least for the Primer level, have a review of all that was learned so far and this is a huge plus in my opinion.

Example of one of the addition activities.

If you are interested in learning more about this curriculum, download a sample lesson and watch a video of the lessons, click here. V is moving faster than I expected and we very pleased with the curriculum. I do also use other activities and will be sharing them as well on future posts.

Have a great weekend!

All About Reading and All About Spelling Curricula

I had a few options regarding a curriculum for Spelling and for Reading, and it can be very overwhelming to decide which one is best for you and also fits your budget. You basically have to make up your mind based on a few lessons that you can download to have an idea of what the curriculum offers.
Considering that V has been in school for 56 days so far, I’m glad to inform that I’m very pleased with my choices, it’s really working for both me and little V.
All About Reading (AAR) and All About Spelling (AAS) explain each lesson very well. I really like the card’s system, where you separate the cards for future lessons, cards that were mastered already and what needs to be reviewed. The activities are very hands-on and really fun!

Another feature that I like it very much, are the alphabet tiles that can be used for practicing spelling and for alphabetizing.

There’s also a Phonogram App that is free and can help your little ones to hear the sound of each letter of the Alphabet.

English is my second language and this program makes me feel very confident to teach my little one.
If you would like to learn more about it, feel free to click on the link for All About Reading or All About Spelling on the right.
Thanks for coming by and have a great day!

Teaching Area!

Even though it’s not mandatory to have a room dedicated exclusively to Homeschooling, I do like to have an area dedicated for it. My area has changed a lot since we started Homeschooling. I’m always trying to find what works and actually fits in our budget.

I need to have all the school material organized, it just makes life easier! Believe me, between Homeschooling, running 3 blogs, studying and preparing for the meetings, going out in field service, conducting Bible studies and caring for a house… much organization is needed.

Back to the teaching area! I got this storage unit at IKEA. Another feature that I liked about it, is that you can secure it to the wall thus preventing it from tipping over in case your little one(s) decides to climb up on it.

That’s it! Very simple and yet organized enough to keep me sane!

Kindergarten 2014-2015!!!

I cannot believe how fast the time is going by, my little one is already in Kindergarten! We started our school year on September 2nd, right after Labor Day. V was very excited and I was worrying so much about the curricula choices. While all the other Moms spent days during the summer time stressing out about their curricula choices I was simply enjoying the summer with little V. I could hardly understand why the Moms were so worried about it, until a few weeks before the school started. Never realized how much thought and research is put into finding the right curriculum that fits the budget, making the supply list and schedule and so on.

Well, after many prayers and asking Jehovah to guide me, I found all that I needed. I do have to say, I’m so pleased with all my choices and so is little V, all thanks to Jehovah’s guidance!
Kindergarten 1st day picture!

Hope you will stick with us and follow our journey through Kindergarten. I’ll share with you what we do, our choices of curriculum, resources, ideas for activities and how I try to teach my little one to apply Bible principles on her daily life and help her to draw ever closer to Jehovah.
Have a great day!
